the LOOK

EDITOR'S WORD

Talented young film director and former stylist Darina Faizova talks about her childhood memories and shares her style secrets with us.

Why did you choose this look?

I always fall for feminine silhouettes. The dress I chose is timeless, you can wear it with heels or sandals and then head to the beach. I tend to buy clothes which I can wear to multiple occasions.

What does your everyday outfits look like?

Depends on the time schedule. I am a type of person who really values my own comfort. Jeans, blazers, sneakers, cool vintage earrings, and I am ready to conquer the world.

The most disliked trend?

To be honest, I never really dislike anything. What I can hate today, I might adore tomorrow. Never say never…

How would you describe your personal style?

I travel a lot and I really like to integrate authentic stuff from different cultures into my personal style. I also love color-blocking trend, probably influenced by Wes Anderson. However, western style clothes are always constant in my wardrobe.

Which designer does not disappoint every season?

I wanted to say Phoebe Philo, but she quit a year ago.

What is the best fashion advice you have ever received?

At the moment I work in film making, but my first job was stylist. I can’t say that I ever asked for any fashion advice, but what I always say to myself: never go for trends. Invent something which will be your ‘thing’ and will reflect you and then just carry this throughout all your outfits. This is what makes you unique.

The best beauty advice you have ever received?

Try to keep your natural hair color and don’t tweeze your eye brows too much. This is what emphasizes your youth and natural beauty.

What is your most cherished fashion related memory?

The cherished fashion related memory is me and my mom shopping in the children’s store in Vienna when I was 5 years old. As soon as we entered the store I saw a cool dress, which was for 18-month old baby. I wanted to wear it as a cropped top. After numerous tantrums, I finally got it. I was always creative and open-minded.
