MORE is LOVE: Tell us what you do in a few sentences...

George Keburia: I do what I've loved since childhood – transmitting my ideas into clothes. Now, as a young designer, I am in constant search for inspirations and I am involved in the process of creating new collections every season.

MORE is LOVE: You are a self-taught designer and had completely different background when you started out. What made you change your mind?

George Keburia: My parents did not want me to become a designer so I studied business management at the university. However, I decided to dedicate all of my free time to designing.

MORE is LOVE: What do you think about trends in general? Do you follow other designers' work for inspiration and influence?

The younger you are, the bigger risks you take because you do not fear your thoughts.

George Keburia: Trends do influence everybody. For some people trend is like a fashion clock, that never stops. We live according to this clock and for designers it's like a homework, they accomplish according to their own interpretations. I get greatest inspiration from Nicolas Ghesquiere and Jonathan Anderson.

MORE is LOVE: Your latest collection was something that would be perfect for a young twentysomething girl: white socks, tennis shoes, loose and comfortable fabrics and shapes. How has your vision changed for this collection in particular? What were your thoughts at the starting point of making collection?

George Keburia: While making the collection, I was thinking of 80's sportswear shapes. I tried to give the collection a different vibe and despite everything, wanted to preserve the femininity. I have never worked with so many colors and I was quite nervous about keeping the balance.

MORE is LOVE: Do you think about commercial side of fashion when you start making a collection? Or is it just your personal vision transmitted onto paper and clothing?

George Keburia: I do think about commercial side of fashion. But I have less commercial pieces to style overall looks. Nevertheless, when the collection is out for sale, sometimes there is a demand for adjustment. This process is quite unpredictable for me.

MORE is LOVE: Can you remember your earliest memory associated with fashion?

George Keburia: In elementary school I hated listening to teachers. Lessons were too boring, so I used to pass time by sketching at the back of my notebooks. I used to draw clothes and shoes.

MORE is LOVE: You were very young when you entered this field. You still are. At the same time, you were pretty ambitious and risky for a newcomer. The three-headed piece you did was an unexpected surprise for Georgian fashion scene. What were your expectations at that time? And now that you look back, what would you change in your career path?

George Keburia: Sometimes I regret starting design at such a young age, because my style was not that developed and I had no experience, neither technical nor styling. But the truth is that, the younger you are, the bigger risks you take because you do not fear your thoughts. Today, I am much more critical about myself. Despite everything, I would not change anything in my past, because it gave me great experience. In fact, I try not to think about the past too much and concentrate on future.

The most essential part of fashion industry is working hard, not losing hope and being risky.

MORE is LOVE: Finally, what do you think about Georgian fashion scene? People working in it, competition, collaboration .. what's the most essential part that's missing here?

George Keburia: Generally, I consider that collaboration is a good idea, because it is always interesting to share ideas and listen to other’s perspectives. The most essential part of fashion industry is working hard, not losing hope and being risky. Apart from those factors, I consider that the industry is developing at a normal pace and Georgian designers are becoming quite popular.
